Congratulations to first-year DPhil student Emmanuel Sowicz who has been elected Associate of the Royal Academy of Music (ARAM).

Associateship is awarded to alumni of the Academy who have distinguished themselves in the music profession and made a significant contribution in their particular field. The alumni will be conferred at a special ceremony in April at which Sir Simon Robey, Chair of the Royal Academy of Music's Governing Body, will grant the awards.

Emmanuel will be joined by four Faculty alumni who have also been named in this year's list: bassoonist Angharad Thomas (New, 2011), flautist Daniel Shao (St Catherine's, 2013), conductor Chloe Rooke (St Catherine's, 2015), and conductor Tom Fetherstonhaugh (Merton, 2016).

Emmanuel is working at the Faculty under the supervision of Professor Laura Tunbridge and is a prize-winning classical guitarist. He has performed across Europe, Latin America, and Asia, combining his passion for the instrument's traditional repertoire with a keen interest in new music and the art of transcription - the subject of his doctoral research. He is also the Music Scholar at St Hilda's College. For more about Emmanuel's work, visit: www.emmanuelsowicz.com
