Hitler's Jazz Band: DPhil Student Leo Geyer Featured in Documentary on Sky Arts

Following his research into music of the Holocaust, DPhil Music student Leo Geyer was filmed as part of the Sky Arts documentary "Hitler's Jazz Band", shedding light on the Nazi's most bizarre propaganda vehicle. Despite the ban on jazz throughout the Third Reich, the Nazis created Germany's premier swing band. This documentary charts the fascinating story of Karl Schweidler and his band.

Remembering John Whenham

The Faculty of Music is sorry to learn of the passing of alumnus Professor John Whenham (New College, 1968). Following completion of his DPhil at Oxford, Professor Whenham went on to spend over 40 years at the University of Birmingham. The University of Birmingham has published an obituary celebrating his life and career.
