Alumnus Dr Bradley Hoover publishes on Delsarte and Wagner

Dr Bradley Hoover's (New College, 2018) new book The Aesthetic System of François Delsarte and Richard Wagner has been published by Cambridge University Press. Filled with fascinating figures, it deals with the striking similarities between Wagner's early aesthetic writings and François Delsarte's 'Cours d'esthétique appliquée', a theoretical and practical training course for artists which Delsarte began teaching in Paris in May 1839, shortly before Wagner arrived in the city.
