Alumna of the MSt in Musicology programme (2020-2021) Yijia Tu has a new album out on Friday 8 August. TU has been developed over the past nine years and brings together folk traditions from China, Mongolia Tuvan and original compositions into a world where ancient sounds meet spell-binding storytelling and creativity, reconnecting with Yijia's heritage. The single 'Willow Flowers', which won the 2021 St John's Mapleton-Bree Art Prize, is inspired by a thousand-year-old classical Chinese poem by Su Shi. You can listen to the album on Soundcloud.

Yijia has also recently presented the musical journey behind TU in a TEDx talk. The talk, entitled 'Connecting across culture and time through the gift of music', can be watched on YouTube, and her talk from the 2025 TED conference will be released on 13 August.
