Faculty of Music Alumna Chloe Rooke Conducts the BBC Concert Orchestra

Faculty of Music alumna Chloe Rooke (St Catherine's College, 2015) recently conducted the BBC Concert Orchestra at Saffron Hall with soloists Emma Johnson and Sarah Redgwick in a concert of Viennese New Year music. 

Chloe Rooke is Assistant Conductor of the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra for the season 2022/23. She won the Contemporary Award at the first International Conducting Competition in Rotterdam in May 2022 and the Audience Prize at the Donatella Flick-LSO Conducting Competition in 2021. She also attracted attention as the youngest competitor of the 2021 Malko Competition: "Many will leave Copenhagen with memories of Chloe Rooke, the young British conductor who lit the competition up with her sense of music's joy and communicative potential" - Andrew Mellor, Gramophone.

Remembering John Whenham

The Faculty of Music is sorry to learn of the passing of alumnus Professor John Whenham (New College, 1968). Following completion of his DPhil at Oxford, Professor Whenham went on to spend over 40 years at the University of Birmingham. The University of Birmingham has published an obituary celebrating his life and career.
